It might be language, in your profile settings there'll be options and "undetermined" is one of them. If you're set to only show English then the ones you're not seeing might be undetermined. It's multi select so you can have both.

Oh hey it's you again :)
Thanks, I hadn't changed the language but I've just gone in and explicitly set it to "undetermined" as it seems it wasn't set to anything by default. Now I CAN see some of the comments that were missing before, but other entire threads have disappeared including ones I've already commented in (I can no longer see our convo from yesterday for example).
What a mess! I need to fiddle with this more, and new accounts should definitely be defaulting to "undetermined" if this is what happens when they're not.
Edit: Missed the bit where you said it was multi-select so now I can see everything (I think), but this is definitely not an ideal default situation
You may need to select multiple languages (CTRL+). In my case that was the problem. I now have "undetermined, english and portuguese".
Yep I've sorted it, thanks. Just seems weird to not have everyone default to "undetermined" if it's this important. Still, all's well that ends well!
Yeah the language configuration confuses me too, I won't lie. Gets in the way more than it helps. I believe the Chat community is set to English, so if you've only selected undetermined and not English maybe that's why it doesn't appear anymore.
Ah so because the default setting is to have no language option selected, I must have just been posting in whatever the community default was yesterday. That makes sense.
Just realized I had the same problem and found this thread. Feels like there should be something more obvious to point it out than just a number for the number of comments in a thread, and then not seeing that many comments.
Maybe two numbers, one for the total comments, one for the ones you can see with your current settings.
