This might be good for Firefox. If there is a capable competitor for the default search engine, this might increase the revenue Mozilla gets from the setting.

Exactly. I'm fine with Mozilla picking the highest bidder. Not like I use the default search anyway.

Jokes on them I use DuckDuckGo. The Firefox project needs funding to continue existing anyway so selling off a choice that doesn't affect Mozilla is totally fine by me.

If you are using DuckDuckGo then you are using Bing.
