I wish I could delete my #Twitter account again.

If Musk thinks this will bring back advertisers I think he's wrong. The advertisers weren't there for FoxNews. Carlson's show wasn't bringing in McDonalds, Coke, Home Depot, etc. It brought in the the My Pillows and Buy Gold advertisers. Twitter needs to bring back the former.

That very much seems to be the case.

lol, shows on Twitter! The CPBL tried to do that during the pandemic and Americans where clamoring for sports, but it didn't work very well.

Not to defend Musk, but he denied this.

Though, that's not to say he didn't directly foster an environment where it would not only be welcomed, but encouraged...

Fair enough. So, Carlson is pissing away a $25 million dollar payout to do his own produced show on Twitter? This show will be is subjected to the Aaron Rupars of the world directly calling out his shit in front of his audience directly. Seems there's a lot of risk.

You're not defending him, this article is lying about it, Twitter isn't "giving" them anything special.

I mean, I dunno about tucker Carlson, though he’ll probably draw a certain kind of crowd. Overall though, tv on Twitter, I’m not going to underestimate that. Could flop, could be a thing.

Is there an actual partnership between Tucker Carlson and Twitter? Or did he happen to like Twitter and so picked it as platform?

If there's a partnership I wonder if Twitter would still be considered a mere conduit, or neutral platform for speech. If not, what would it mean for Twitter's Section 230 protection?

[–] DHPersonal 6 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Seems like speculation. Variety has a comment from Musk in its coverage. https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/tucker-carlson-launching-twitter-show-fox-news-firing-1235607928/

According to Musk, Twitter does not have a deal with Carlson. “[W]e have not signed a deal of any kind whatsoever. Tucker is subject to the same rules & rewards of all content creators,” Musk tweeted Tuesday.

Thanks, I was suspicious since the claim wasn't backed by anything in the other article.

Given Elon's response to Variety, it sounds like there's still at least one good lawyer or compliance specialist at Twitter.

The article sounds like there is a partnership, but that could be speculation on their end.

New Republic is a right wing rag, so they probably don't know the difference, and if they did they'd want to paint it in as "positive" light as they could.

[–] sexy_peach@feddit.de 3 points 2 years ago

damn I fell for right wing "news" again.

[–] gloating_swann 3 points 2 years ago

Don't think it's a right wing rag, at least not any more...

Best timeline. Twitter will die. There is no way republican money can keep the staff going and users will leave even more.

Every part of it will try to grift, it's going to be so bad :D

[–] Hirom 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (2 children)

I'm not convinced it'll die nor disappear completely. But it may loose most users and become irrelevant like MySpace.

[–] n7gifmdn@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 years ago

I was looking at Alexa ratings a couple years ago and was surprised how much traffic Myspace.com still had.

I didn't mean the website would go offline, I meant Twitter will lose everyone that liked it and get a user base just like gab or something like that. That, but larger. Let's hope the right wingers get tired of just another horrible echo chamber place after a while, like they always do.

They don't like their own company.

[–] Hirom 6 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Undersood. Twitter becoming like gab souds quite plausible seing the current trend.
