March 5 (Reuters) - Jack Daniel's maker Brown-Forman's CEO Lawson Whiting said on Wednesday Canadian provinces taking American liquor off store shelves was "worse than a tariff" and a "disproportionate response" to levies imposed by the Trump administration.

Several Canadian provinces have taken U.S. liquor off store shelves as part of retaliatory measures against President Donald Trump's tariffs.

Canadians are steering away from U.S. goods, sports events and trips following the recent imposition of tariffs, which have left them stirred, despite the deep ties between the two countries.

Im pretty sure insulting our PM and threatening to annex us is worse but what do I know…

[–] Empricorn@feddit.nl 21 points 3 days ago

That wasn't Jack Daniel's! That was just their owners, their customers, Tennessee's politicians, their voters, other red states...

Right? Gotta love these fuckers who only see the money side of this. The potato dick wants to occupy our communities and pillage our natural resources, and this shit stain thinks not being allowed to sell his rotten corn juice in out territory is a step to far?

We know he voted for this menace. All of these wastes of carbon did. This is what he voted for.

insulting our PM

threatening to annex us

One of these things is not like the other.

[–] aushtan@lemm.ee 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Disrespecting our PM by calling him Governor is functionally the same thing as my other point

[–] wise_pancake@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

People can insult Trudeau all they want. They can make fun of us, there's a lot to work with all they want.

But threatening Canada is a hard line that I cannot and will not ever accept.

[–] droplet6585@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Who cares if he insults a politician? How is that the problem?

The problem is that he is threatening your sovereignty. Yes I understand that calling him Governor is implying that Canada is merely a state. But that's the problem, not some slight against a figurehead.

So re-read my latest comment. That was my implication

Feeling insulted when the PM is insulted seems weird. Do you think Americans feel insulted when someone calls Trump a clown?

You're not the guy who put tariffs on Chinese cars to appease the American car manufacturers, the US president calling him a stooge of America for doing his own bidding is genuinely funny.

There absolutely are Americans who get insulted when you make fun of Trump, you can meet them at any Trump rally. I'd also point out, Trump insulted the PM and the entirety of Canada.

OK, excepting the weirdo MAGAs, but I assumed the Canadian equivalent wouldn't be on Lemmy. Do they even have internet in Alberta?

[–] aushtan@lemm.ee 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I’d imagine Alberta has a better grid than Texas. 0 celsius and the entire state goes dark

[–] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Probably, I just assume any right-wing weirdo would live there because of the confederate flag pickup trucks.

Funny thing, I just looked this up this morning. Texas is actually 47% Democrat and 38% Republican, but their gerrymandering is controlled by the GOP and drawn to hugely suppress the Dem vote. They are basically the poster child for suppressing the will of the voters.

Texas also gets its reputation from a sort of zealous immigrant effect. People who move to Texas are more likely to embrace a new identity of their perception of Texans. So you get people who moved to Texas 2 years ago and go around in cowboy hats and talking with a ridiculous accent, further reinforcing Texas's reputation, even though those people are an extremely loud minority.

Heh sounds like you're describing MAGA

It's a terrible whiskey anyway. Go for a good Scottish or Irish single malt.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Bourbons have their place, you can't really make an old fashioned with a scotch .. I mean you can .. but you shouldn't. That said you shouldnt use Jack Daniels for one either.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 3 points 3 days ago

Eh, Jack isn't really a bourbon. It's made with a starter but that's still not really a bourbon. That would be Jim. I don't particularly care for either, but when I was drinking, I preferred a good Irish or Scottish neat.

Occasionally I liked a cocktail with Cointreau, Tequila and lime on the rocks. I forget what it was called.

Not our problem your president broke the agreement.
