@Tutanota@mastodon.social intressting you then recommend Element where with Matrix litterly all meta data is also shared with any server administrator... Bad advice imho.

Just use Signal.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social

I use Matrix on a private, defederated Synapse instance

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Element is being replaced by Element X.

[–] Tutanota@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@AnxietyDescending@mastodon.social Thanks, we'll update this in the future!

@Tutanota@mastodon.social signal

[–] crysen@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Signal 👍

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Signal. It's easy enough to use that I was able to get my elderly mother to use it with no problems.

[–] Noyesster@mstdn.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I use Signal for messaging small friend groups and element for bigger communities

[–] Erklaerbaer@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social and who you call, how long the call lasts, the time of the call,

[–] pa27@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social add delta chat to that list?

@Tutanota@mastodon.social
the Signal is Brian Acton problem. Sold once, sold again...

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Why don't you include the federated #XMPP (aka Jabber) protocol as an alternative? There are plenty of good clients for the phone and PC, like #Conversations, #gajim, or #dino. With the modern extensions like Omemo E2EE and various improvements for mobile use, it is very useable even on phones, while keeping the flexibility and resilience of a federated service (just like the Fediverse).

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I managed to get most important family members and friends to use #Threema.

[–] f@ieji.de 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Signal, through Tor (centralized) (hosted on AWS) (phone number required)

SimpleX (decentralized) no identity messqging

Matrix (decentralized) best for communities

[–] debacle@framapiaf.org 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social

Cant'f find #Jabber/#XMPP in the list 😞
Please fix!

[–] Reexamine8875@mastodon.online 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Threema and Element. Normal; not Techie People don't usually get the principle of Matrix. So Threema for non-Nerds and Element for Nerds.

@Tutanota@mastodon.social #DeltaChat

[–] sbb@c.im 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

@spla@mastodont.cat @Tutanota@mastodon.social +1 for Deltachat. Requires an auto-crypt-compatible email address. @Tutanota@mastodon.social , would you please add #deltachat compatible auto-crypt goodness to your offerings?

[–] Tutanota@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

@sbb@c.im @spla@mastodont.cat Thanks for your feedback, I'll pass the request on to the devs.

[–] sbb@c.im 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social @spla@mastodont.cat Much appreciated! 👍

[–] bassjobsen@mastodon.nl 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social we will need interoperability

[–] ritacarm@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Signal!

[–] feudjais@eldritch.cafe 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I need to say it : #XMPP is also a good replacement. The first step to use it is not easy for everyone but once it is done it is way simpler than Matrix. My mother use XMPP with no problem! 😊

[–] raiden_fediverse@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

@Tutanota #deltachat
Basically, email is just a messenger standard. The normal user interface of email clients imitates classic letter writing. DeltaChat proves that you can just as easily use a modern messenger UI.

#SimpleX @simplex@mastodon.social

[–] ambiguous_yelp@social.coop 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Simplex is my fav then either Signal or Briar depends, none are perfect but Simplex is the most private and anonymous

[–] headgamer@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Signal. Tho I can't get any of my family or friends to switch over.

[–] adbenitez@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social an #email provider talking about alternatives to #WhatsApp and casually overlooking #DeltaChat 🧐

[–] RubenWA@social.vivaldi.net 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social

  1. Threema
  2. Signal

@Tutanota@mastodon.social add Briar @briar@fosstodon.org

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Matrix! Well you have it as Element but its Matrix. Element is a client you can use on Matrix.

[–] Brandon_Baez@mstdn.mx 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social element :awesome: :awesome:

[–] dadinek@fosstodon.org 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

@Tutanota@mastodon.social I switched to Signal and convinced my friends, mom and sister but the rest of the family, no way. They stick to WhatsApp too lazy too change. The number of people who don't give a shit about their online privacy is crazy

[–] Tutanota@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@dadinek@fosstodon.org Unfortunately, yes, but they'll learn!

[–] ht82@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Threema!

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Element & Signal

@Tutanota@mastodon.social
The main problem I see isn't finding a good alternative, but finding a person who is willing to abandon #meta
I have multiple alternatives(#signal, #element #telegram #discord ) but what to do when I'm the only one using them?

[–] uastaeus@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social My current concern is interoperability. I can’t convince colleagues and family to escape from Meta (fortunately I can convince friends, but you can’t force colleagues or cousins to change their habits). I have a terrible impression of social fragmentation behind multiplying new walled gardens. How easy is it to bridge Element with Whatsapp and Telegram? And does it require a mirror account on those platforms?

[–] steppl@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social

Threema - however I could not still convince my community to move

[–] Cwr1981@mastodon.social 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Simplex

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Currently we are using #session and exploring #simplex
Thank you tutanota!!

@Tutanota@mastodon.social Delta Chat

[–] whoami@fosstodon.org 1 points 1 week ago

@Tutanota@mastodon.social in your article: [...] Session is based in Australia [...]. Is not true.

The foundation has moved to Switzerland last year.
