Say what you will about the woke gaming agenda, I love to see a company brave enough to take this stance. It's refreshing to see a publisher wear its beliefs on its sleeve because now I know that I don't have to spend money on their trash games

[–] DdCno1 14 points 5 days ago

City Interactive and trash games have always been synonymous. They shortened their name to get rid of the mountain of trash they have produced, but it's not working.

Had me in the first half, not gonna lie

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 29 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Going out of your way to not include "any social or political agenda" is a social and political agenda.

It's also fucking impossible if you're telling a game with any kind of narrative at all. Based on Lords of the Fallen though, saying their games had a narrative is indeed a stretch.

[–] ZeroHora@lemmy.ml 14 points 4 days ago

Their games are ass, this don't surprise me

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 10 points 4 days ago

Cool, so, boring ass games with just straight white men and bimbos, because that’s not politics, that’s the default.

I can’t wait until companies realize that they’re scared of the biggest pussies on earth, conservative white men.

[–] catloaf@lemm.ee 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

If it doesn't, then it's not really art, it's it? It's just a mass-market commercial product.

Even the Avengers movies, everyone's favorite garbage media, include social and political commentary.

[–] rickyrigatoni@lemm.ee 16 points 5 days ago

The way I view it intentionally avoiding social and political commentary is in itself social and political commentary.

[–] HelixDab2@lemm.ee 24 points 5 days ago

So, they're only going to make games with no narrative complexity going forward. Got it.

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 21 points 5 days ago (1 children)

I want to make a game that doesn't have a single straight white man in it, just to rustle the jimmies of these anti-woke wieners.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Apex Legends already exists.

[–] DragonTypeWyvern@midwest.social 3 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I only played it on launch and I'm pretty sure the starting line up was mostly straight white dudes with a war crime fetish.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago

I was mostly only joking, but after having to look them up because I don't really play it, only 4 of the 26 characters MIGHT be straight white men, assuming they are all straight, the rest are canonically not straight or not male or not white.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

What would DEI even mean for this game? It looks like it's about hooded and masked figures killing baddies in a medieval world.

Anti Commercial-AI license

[–] imPastaSyndrome@lemm.ee 20 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

It means no black people or women in power

[–] DdCno1 19 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

Obligatory:

There are only two skin colors: White and political.

Two genders: Male and political.

Two sexual orientations: Straight and political.

Two religious beliefs: Christian and political.

Etc. pp.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 9 points 5 days ago (1 children)

You're still doing that anti AI signature nonsense after all this time!? 🤣 My brother in Darwin... That text truly means NOTHING to the bots scraping the content.

[–] onlinepersona@programming.dev 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Hmm, I thought I'd blocked all the people making uninformed comments about it by now. Glad I can add one to the list 🙂

Anti Commercial-AI license

[–] Sidyctism2@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 5 days ago

then you can block me too, i guess. AI companies literally use pirated media to train their models. If not even big publishing houses and studios can do anything against it, your little link will generate nothing but laughter

[–] gamermanh@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

making uninformed comments about it

I have a bot scrapping and feeding every comment of yours to 2 different LLMs without the AI warning link, so they're absolutely correct that you're wasting your time

And the fun part is that blocking this account won't stop me <3

"While some videogames have recently taken the opportunity to embed social or political agendas within their experiences, it is clear that many players do not appreciate this, and as a result, we have seen a number of high profile releases underperforming commercially during the last year alone," Hill said. "Our games will always be developed to maximise player enjoyment and commercial success, and as such, we will not be integrating any social or political agencies into these experiences going forward having observed the high risk this can present."

Talk about journos making a mountain out of a molerat... If it in fact was written by a "journo" and not an AI. To be fair, journo is a stretch, journos have journalism degrees, there's very little separating "gaming journalists" from bloggers. (Schreier and the like being the exception)

[–] ElcaineVolta@kbin.melroy.org 6 points 5 days ago

CI Games per the article. won't be purchasing anything from them going forward.

[–] ICastFist@programming.dev 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Small time Polish publisher, with the only games of fame, so to speak, being Lords of the Fallen (both versions) and Sniper: Ghost Warrior series (no relation to Sniper Elite)

[–] slough_monster@lemm.ee 2 points 4 days ago

Thought a different dev did the first one, which I actually enjoyed.

[–] JokeDeity@lemm.ee 4 points 5 days ago

So the game is going to be completely lacking in story and motivations and dialogue? Cool flex?

[–] Sakychu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 days ago

Did Lord of the lidl 2 even feature any of that? If not it doesn't seem the have helped them.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee 3 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I guess they are seeing what is happening to other DEI-heavy games. Pendulum swung too far into one direction and it's starting to come back.

[–] hperrin@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Other DEI heavy games like LoL, that have been wildly successful for years.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

That's true. Also look at Marvel Rivals.

[–] TypicalHog@lemm.ee 1 points 3 days ago

Yall can dislike all you want, but we all know a lot of people out there are not fans of DEI ideology. You can say they are wrong, you can say they are immoral, but that doesn't change the fact people have started to have serious negative feelings towards DEI stuff - and companies are noticing it.

Companies want money, they don't give a shit about DEI. They only have a shit about it when it was beneficial to them and their pocket. DEI went hard when it used to pump their stock cause ESG and shit - it ain't like that no more. People are starting to dislike it and it's only gonna get more intense.

As time goes on DEI will be affecting company earnings negatively more and more - and thus they will stop the DEI stuff. SIMPLE.

It's true and we all know it. Love or hate DEI - it's increasingly declining, and the simple reason is - common man ain't a fan of it.
