Can't wait for a hallucinating AI to report me for assault because I hugged someone in public.

[–] possiblylinux127@lemmy.zip 13 points 2 months ago

Maybe they should require everyone to be happy all the time. I'm just imagining everyone going around with freaky smiles.

I mean, he's a billionaire. I guess there's big money on propping up totalitarian regimes.

[–] jonne@infosec.pub 20 points 2 months ago

Let's start by putting up cameras in all his houses.

Will Ellison and government officials volunteer to be observed for next 5 years to prove software?

(No.)

Billionaire wants a totalitarian state, who’s surprised?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panopticon

The panopticon is a design of institutional building with an inbuilt system of control, originated by the English philosopher and social theorist Jeremy Bentham in the 18th century. The concept is to allow all prisoners of an institution to be observed by a single corrections officer, without the inmates knowing whether or not they are being watched.

Although it is physically impossible for the single guard to observe all the inmates' cells at once, the fact that the inmates cannot know when they are being watched motivates them to act as though they are all being watched at all times. They are effectively compelled to self-regulation. The architecture consists of a rotunda with an inspection house at its centre. From the centre, the manager or staff are able to watch the inmates. Bentham conceived the basic plan as being equally applicable to hospitals, schools, sanatoriums, and asylums. He devoted most of his efforts to developing a design for a panopticon prison, so the term now usually refers to that.

I suspect Bentham underestimated the nature of misanthropic behavior.

You want a dystopia? Because that's how you get a dystopia.

They do, one with them at the top

Don’t try to anthropomorphize Larry Ellison.

[–] dotslashme@infosec.pub 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Why do we even care what these tech-bro ass hats think? We already collectively know his vision apply only to "poor people".

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 13 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Because they have undue power over our lives.

Until you stop billionaires from happening you won't solve anything. Remove the source of all of the shit and things will get better

[–] haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Great way to rid yourself of responsibility. Sadly, nothing ever got achieved by being smart. Doing things is what is necessary.

Therefore yes, billionaires must go, of course. But they wont go until we take action. So my point still stands. Read the book.

[–] MayonnaiseArch 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I'm not sure how you can spread the responsibility so far down? I'm at fault while I have almost no power? I'm not saying do nothing, I'm saying do the thing that matters, like remove these cunts from the world. That's our responsibility as a species if we want to continue living

[–] haui_lemmy@lemmy.giftedmc.com 1 points 2 months ago

If you would read the book, they explain the point you are trying to make in the first couple of pages.

You have your opinion of how stuff should be done. But that doesnt mean everyone else needs to do it your way. Thats how we got into this mess.

Also very good analogy in the book: if you vote or not is your decision, plain and simple. But voting takes a couple minutes on average. If you want change, you can hang up a poster or print some flyers or take a megaphone, depending on what you‘re comfortable with.

I come from a country where people used to be put in gas chambers because the responsibility didnt reach far enough down and right now, that same country is going that exact route again.

We need them pointed at every tech CEO constantly.

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 7 points 2 months ago

What if we just get the AI cameras to “hallucinate” our good behaviour?

[–] krolden@lemmy.ml 7 points 2 months ago

Theyre already there

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 4 points 2 months ago

If he really believed that he wouldn’t live in a gated castle.

[–] Charger8232@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

AI camera VS. A .45 Magnum

Tune in next decade to find out who will win this epic battle.

Edit: Why does this guy look like Adam Sutler from V for Vendetta?

[–] jaypatelani@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Like person of interest?

[–] criticalthreshold@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

If it results in innocent people in LA not getting fucking stabbed trying to ride the metro, it'll be good.

Otherwise this is just another fat government contract waiting for a tech bro to get their hands on.

[–] Gorgritch_umie_killa@aussie.zone 4 points 2 months ago

The LA metro? Like, theres a passenger/commuter train in LA?

[–] geneva_convenience@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 months ago

Welcome to China

Yeah but what is "good" behaviour?
