What’s next

Clearly one of the smallest releases ever in the 2.10 series, and it might be our last. We’ll see, though we also know some people get stuck longer than others on older series (especially when using LTS distributions of Free Software operating systems), so we might do (if we feel like it’s needed) a 2.10.40 release with bug fixes only just before or just after GIMP 3.0.0 release, as a wrap up.

In any case, we are now stopping backporting features in the 2.10 series. These graphics tablet support improvements for Windows are huge enough that they had to get in; yet from now on, we want to focus solely on releasing GIMP 3.0.0.

Now you might wonder when that is? Very soon! We are on the last sprint towards the release candidate. This includes a lot of bug fixes, but also still some API changes going on. We will keep you updated!

Don’t forget you can donate and personally fund GIMP developers, as a way to give back and accelerate the development of GIMP. Community commitment helps the project to grow stronger! 💪🥳

Dont use "stable" software people.

Gimp 3 is already very nice! Use it exclusively.

This is good to know. I usually have a mixed set of applications for stable and non stable, depending on how much I trust the devs for this. If the release of Gimp 3 wouldn't be on the corner, I probably used it too.

I'm on Linux and use Wayland (details not important if you are not familiar with it) and Gimp 3 still has a few issues regarding that. At least based on their own notes, so I will wait a few weeks (or months) longer, because I am not at a hurry at the moment. Can't wait for this massive update and a huge step forward! Glad to hear it is already working well (I would assume that if they are close to release.)

I mean I already reported 2 issues, but it still works. I can use it without big problems, I use the beta Flatpak (as explained in my flatpak remotes list).

Using Wayland too, Idk about any problems but if it wouldnt work I would just disable Wayland for the Flatpak and the app automatically runs through XWayland
