I don't know how to find a meta Lemmy support community. There are some communities I'd like to make about specific topics, and my understanding is that Beehaw prevents community creation.

No, you need a local account on an instance to create a community.

I'd suggest an alternate instance than LW though, just to try to decentralize lemmy more.

beehaw is defederated from lemmy.world, so no.

you could make an account somewhere else and have more access to the fediverse (including making communities), but then you would also get the garbage that beehaw is attempting to keep out.
