the big stickied thread is getting cluttered with lots of new people and the "how was your week" thread isn't a great fit for introductions, so it seems about time to make this a dedicated thread of its own so peoples' posts aren't getting lost.

tell us a little bit about yourself, folks. don't gotta be too specific or revealing, just whatever you want to put out there. this'll be a good way of getting to know all the people you're now on here with

What are some of your biggest reasons for being antinatalist?

I'm a parent, but there's a lot of merit to the arguments of antinatalism, and I'm curious to hear your reasoning for it. I struggled a lot with the moral implications of becoming a parent, and the book Debating Procreation: Is It Wrong to Reproduce? was a fascinating read for me.

Pregnancy eventually 'happened', and we decided to give our shot at the parenting thing and to do our best to give our child the best life they could have, and it's been a challenging, yet fulfilling experience thus far for us.

I still agree with many of the arguments put forth by antinatlists, though.

Hey appreciate the question:)

I think my biggest reasons are that nobody can consent to being born and that therefore willfully and informed procreation is always selfish.

I hope you don't see this as an attack on you and your family, this is always a very emotional topic.

I also realize that I have a huge advantage in that I never wanted to have kids and generally don't like them.

That's completely fair, and to be fair, I also agree with you. I also ruminate on the fact that no child can choose to be born and whether it's morally justified to bring another being into the world for your selfish desire.

Thanks for sharing.
