Retro Game Recs? (beehaw.org)
submitted 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) by mint to c/gaming

my Retroid Flip came in yesterday and I'm already a big fan of it. got RetroArch and Daijisho so it's good to go.

so give me your retro game reps! This thing can play games on Android, and the following consoles (that I care about)

  • NES

  • SNES

  • N64

  • Sega Master System

  • Sega CD

  • Sega 32X

  • Sega Saturn

  • Sega Dreamcast

  • Neo-Geo

  • PS1

  • Game Boy

  • Game Boy Color

  • Game Boy Advance

  • Nintendo DS

  • Playstation Portable

It can also play every Arcade System (MAME, etc) and home computer (amiga, the C64 i guess lol)

it plays some stuff on the GameCube and PS2, but not very well.

throw whatever at me, doesn't matter how obscure! the only caveat is that for DS games, stuff that rarely uses touch controls is preferred unless it has a dpad patch like the zelda games.

I'll play pretty much anything! But I especially like JRPGs, Platformers, that sort of thing. For example, Mother 3 and BoFIV are the first things I put in the Flip as soon as I got it, haha

i see! well i'm not too privy to really obscure games, so you'll probably already have heard of / played those, but just a few recs:

  • Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete on PS1 (or The Silver Star on Sega CD) and its sequel Eternal Blue
  • Astal on Saturn
  • Langrisser 1 and 2 (i.e. Warsong and its never officially localized sequel) on Genesis/Mega Drive - if T-RPGs are your thing
  • Shining Force 1 through 3, Genesis/Mega Drive and Saturn - ditto
  • Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals on SNES

i guess i don't have a lot of platformers to recommend, haha

These are great, thank you!

Not sure how functional it would be on that system but you should check out Contact for the DS, I've heard it's got similar energy to the Mother games. Dunno if you've played Secret of Mana on the SNES, I recommend Secret of Evermore. It's quite similar gameplay but it has you going through a bunch of different time periods with your dog. I always thought it was criminally overlooked.

I've actually played Contact! But I've never played Secret of Evermore, been wanting to so I'll def grab that. Thanks much!
