Hi guys - I keep getting 500 Server Error. Is this because the server is getting overwhelmed? Too many new users?

I'm getting frequent errors too. Plus disappearing comments. I'd imagine it's because of the increased traffic.

Plus disappearing comments

i was wondering about this. i see posts with like 6 or so comments, but I only see 2 get loaded.

edit: problem solved. thx!

it's possible comments disappearing or not displaying may be a result of your language settings, which are an... admittedly intuitive part of lemmy right now. if you suspect this is the case/haven't already checked: go to your settings, scroll down to Languages, and then make sure you have "Undetermined" checked.

oooooh... weird, because the setting makes it seem like if you select "Undetermined", then some comments would disappear, which is why I selected "English". I'll try changing the setting.

You should select both. This is improved in 0.17.3, "undetermined" is automatically always enabled. You need to wait for beehaw to be updated.

I haven't looked too deep into it, but it seems like the way it works is that you select a language or set of languages from the list and then you only see comments where the language selected matches what you have selected. It seems like on comments "undetermined" is selected by default.

Ohhhh. That fixed it, thanks. Definitely something that Lemmy can improve on because it's rather confusing. I couldn't even see one of my previous comments anymore because it threw an error. Now it works again after re-selecting Undetermined.

Edit: Also not seeing the other errors anymore 👍🏻
