the government isn't a singular entity so this is kinda a loaded question.
at a local level there are definitely more people with our interests in mind than there are in upper levels of government, but yes I do believe that overall there is a majority trying to work in our best interest.
unfortunately there's a powerful minority working for their own self interests, and another large group of people who are well intentioned but misinformed.
