I've been using GIMP for around twenty years and I agree that it's still hard to use, but I will say, they've improved a ton in the last few years. It's important to know that it's not for drawing, it's for image manipulation. I have no idea why they've never just added a suite of drawing tools though.

Probably because it's really easy to use Inkscape instead.

Eh, I don't think "open a whole separate app that uses a totally different file and document format" is "really easy".

"Uses" is a little nebulous here. You can open/paste/embed most common types of image into Inkscape, and you can open/paste SVGs in GIMP. It actually is really fucking easy to do the drawing part in Inkscape and then pop the result back into GIMP.
