The best part of video games back in the day was making memories with your friends, now it all feels like structured fun. “This is how you play the game and this is when you are supposed to have fun” Idk if that makes sense.

"I used to enjoy this, and I don't anymore" get your bloodwork done, that's a telltale sign of depression.

it's not just a state of mind, doctors can tell if you are depressed looking at your test results.

It sounds more like this is about modern game design patterns/values vs those of older games.

IMO There definitely has been a shift away from local multiplayer in games, and even more importantly a shift away from sandboxy games that you can dick around with friends doing random bullshit in. Gary's mod/TF2 custom servers vs Overwatch, are what I often think of, for example. I miss the crazy janky custom shit Gary's Mod produced.

But I'm sure there's still decent examples of both that I haven't been exposed to because I don't focus on this as much these days. (You know any good modern ones of those? I'd love to hear about them).

One of my favorite zombie games was a gary's mod one where you could actually nailgun objects together to build a barricade, and one zombie tries to convert all the other players to zombies by breaking through and picking off whoever it can kill. The balance was terrible, you'd play with like 30 players on a server, a lot of it was standing around waiting because only so many people can shoot through one barricaded door at a time, and then all hell would break loose. It was fun as hell.
