Trying to upload cool confocal microscopy image, but I keep getting an error message
(startrek.website)
Anything related to things that are too small to see them with the eye, and the tools used to observe them.
This space is quite general in scope - microscopes, microbiology, small component electronics, questions about buying optical components, etc.
I can upload my image to imgur, and I can post that, but the pretty image doesn't show, it's just an imgur link. Is it possible to show a thumbnail of the pretty picture? imgur link here https://imgur.com/a/H7KjOJ6
Thank you for your help! :)
I was able to upload it with both an admin and a non-admin account:

One idea: microscopy image files can be very big. Perhaps imgur compressed it considerably, and that's why I was able to upload it after downloading it from there. How big is the original file that you tried uploading?
oh! i'm on the startrek.webpage lemmy site, i dont have my account here in mander. does that explain it?
No, I just tested. The .tif format is not supported by lemmy. When it is uploaded to imgur it is transformed into a .png, so it works then!
hmm, I exported the .tif into a .jpg, and into .png, and I still got the Syntax error when trying to upload in a new post?
Then I think it may be a problem with startrek.website
original image is 3.9Mb, its a tif made from the z stacks of the super huge .lsm files. is 3.9Mb too big for here? Sorry, I'm a new reddit refugee, learning how this lemmy thing works :)
And cool image, by the way!
thank you! i love the new in situ HCR method for showing gene expression, the images are always so pretty! :)

when i click on this link, it says i have to log in. hmm
Ah, sorry, I thought you had already looked at that. I deleted the test post after a bit - it was simply a post of the image made by a test account.
