@willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks Oh gosh, I try never to go back to those older books. I tried to re-read a Betty Neels (who I loved) & I couldn't. But at least it wasn't as bad as the old Presents ... talk about misogynistic. All they did was teach you that a man could be verbally & emotionally abusive, but you can fall in love with them anyway.

@lenoreo @willaful @romancelandia @romancebooks and we won't mention the bodice rippers/rape culture ... yes, I loved those books too, we were conditioned to - Luke and Laura anybody?
@Eve @lenoreo I still find them cathartic reads at times, though my tolerance is definitely not what it once was.

@willaful I have to be in a very specific headspace for them, for real.
And even then, it can be iffy whether I can finish them.
