Tonight I wanted to share my favorite weekend beater watch — the Smiths Everest Expedition.

While Smiths watches can be annoying to get, and the company has less than stellar customer interactions, the watch itself is well worth the hassle.

The dial with the recessed center and stenciled numerals is very pleasing. As are the blue hands and red seconds. I love how the lume pip on the seconds traces the inner circle of the dial.

Also, the quality is shockingly good especially the case. Even the bracelet is a sturdy number although the clasp itself articulates in an odd way (this may be due to me removing nearly every link — I have small wrists).

The automatic Miyota movement has been a reliable workhorse and the simplicity of a no-date adds to the charm.

In short, this thing is awesome and; at around $400, seriously takes aim at the Seiko and Citizen choices.

I love that model. The chapter ring (I think that’s what it’s called) on the edge is so cool as are the hands.

As famously said, “dead on balls accurate” is a good description of the movement.
