Why getting married at all though? It's not required for a relationship to prosper. People can live very happily together without getting married

Marriage still gives financial benefits from the government though

Not in Belgium 😊. "Legally cohabiting" brings very similar benefits as being married.

To be considered financially independent on FAFSA so less student debt. It was terrible long-term planning but turns out we really get on so it worked out.
