You are aware that the .ml doesn't stand for machine learning, right?

[–] atocci@kbin.social 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Some people made an account there right in the beginning of the Reddit fiasco before there were any viable alternative instances, like I did. Looking at the age of the account, I'm guessing that's what they did too.

Yeah it's the TLD for the country of Mali

This weird equivalence some people draw between liking/agreeing with a significant amount of ML work and defending everything the Soviet Union and CCP have ever done....it's really weird

Maybe they know something we don't.

EDIT: JSYK, it's CPC. CCP is the intentionally wrong abbreviation that nazi propagandists use and I don't think that's what you intended.

The Chinese Communist Party (CCP),[3] officially the Communist Party of China (CPC),[4] is the founding and sole ruling party of the People's Republic of China (PRC). - Wikipedia

No, it's CCP. I don't call Nazis by what they choose to be called so i will also not do that for the CCP

[–] spiderplant@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Don't tell me you think the Nazi party were socialist because it was in their name?

[–] Nobsi@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

No, but i will not call the CCP what they want to be called. The commies caused china to be what it is. Just because they are auth now doesnt change my hatred for the governing body.

Apologies I misread your comment and thought you were saying the CCP were Nazi's.

Since you mentioned it, i have to ask what's so bad about China now?

Not a big fan of any nation state myself as an anarchist but want to know specifically what you'd consider bad that couldn't be applied to the US or other western nations.

I can tell you what i very very dislike.
I very very dislike the censorship and subsequent propaganda the governing body spits out every time disaster strikes.
Flooding of huge swaths of land? Better post some fake helpers moving one bag of sand with 50 people on douyin.
Tofu Dreg Highrise collapse and people lost their homes? Eh, not my problem. post some fake helpers moving one bag of sand with 50 people on douyin.

96 percent of all citizens earn less than 5 dollars a day? Better spread the big news that we "lifted millions of people out of poverty" everywhere on the internet. Nobody will look up any of the figures and see that people living in the countryside still cannot afford to live normal lives in their home country because they barely make 3 dollars a day.

I can go on.
The worst i hear from the US is that Ohio and Jackson have no clean drinking water.

Ohio because of a train derailment that was directly caused by political incompetence and jackson because of old laws.
But on the US this isnt censored. All news station reported on it. Nobody went to jail for posting tiktoks about it.

The US doesn't send students abroad to intimidate other american students who dare say anything against the republicans.

what does machine learning have to do with it?

[–] Omega_Haxors@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

It's a joke at the domain name for people who think it means "Machine Learning" and not "Marxism-Leninism"

[–] OsrsNeedsF2P@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 year ago (2 children)

TIL it was picked for Marxism-Leninism

[–] bob_lemon@feddit.de 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I thought it was just a very cheap domain.

[–] Rin@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

yeah, they used to be free

[–] Omega_Haxors@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I mean not really? I just say that because the developers of lemmy are quite left-wing. I wouldn't even be surprised if it was the reason.
