Got NMS right at launch and was so underwhelmed by actual experience compared to what was promised. Each new version reminded me of its existence, and once in a while I would fire it up to see what the new versions had to offer. So much procedural generation making everything generic - there wasn't anything special about anything. It was the first game where I learned the term "inventory management". I could craft increasingly complex stuff, but why? To what purpose? The story was so weak I never felt compelled to continue. It sounds like the new updates are concentrating on some story based gameplay. We'll see.
