Definitely B5. For all of its issues it's one I still enjoy.

Well. It's certainly close. Still looks a little tight.

Maybe the upcoming Samsung 57" 32:9 2160p will finally get us there...

If I see any other clones show up I'll add them to my private clone as remotes.

This way I can easily collate any updates they receive and, if they all start disappearing I'll be able to re-publish it somewhere anonymously.

Hopefully that provides another tricky target for take-down whack-a-mole.

I loved the C64 (and my eventually '030 expanded Amiga B2000).

I played the hell out of Lode Runner (and on Amiga) and Archon / Archon II.

The others on this list didn't grab me as much.

Other C64 titles I remember I played a lot were:

  • The Bard's Tale set.. I have a sneaky suspicion I have some of the maps lying around in storage somewhere.
  • Zork series (I recall getting a guide via a BBS back in the day)
  • Paradroid (and Paradroid 90 on the Amiga)
  • International Karate +
  • The Boulderdash series (and constructor kit... sharing levels back and forth with friends)
  • Commando (another title with Rob Hubbard's musical magic tricks with SID)
  • The Pitfall games
  • Elite (and now Elite Dangerous on PC)
  • Arkanoid / Arkanoid II
  • Green Beret
  • Wizardry games (I didn't play the Ultima games until the Amiga)
  • Spy hunter (having played this well before seeing Blue's Brothers, I thought it freaky they were using game music - ah naive young me)
  • Pole Position (I think there was a sequel but I don't recall if that was the C64 or Amiga)
  • Ghost'n'Goblins
  • The Monty on the Run games
  • Nebulus (with some clever overlapping of colour and mono sprites for better resolution)
  • The Sentinel (and my book of oh so many level codes - I have never found a satisfyingly playable PC port but the Amiga had a good one)

Some I really missed finding good ports on the Amiga (but then I had a ton of other choices on the Amiga too)

Time will tell how much other treatment is needed to make it palatable (or how much might need to be combined with other sources). Still, definitely worth the investigation.

The other issue I've run into is the Join and Block buttons being unavailable (meaning that cancelling Pending might not result in being able to hit Subscribe again). This is another issue that sounds like it has fixes coming.

Having left them for weeks, it's pretty clear they often don't resolve. However it seems 18.1 is likely to help.

All large shops in England have been legally required to charge for single-use plastic shopping bags since 2015 - a move that has seen bags drop by mor then 95 per cent, according to the government. The legal charge was initially a minimum of 5p, but this was raised to 10p in May 2021 in a bid to further reduce usage.

Doesn't this approach risk promoting elitism by wealth? Past a given income level that fixed overhead becomes irrelevant.

So those on a lower income, who are more cost-sensitive, are made to be more responsible for reaching pollution-limiting targets than the wealthy.

I prefer the level-playing field better I think (if only we were applying that to more things here).

I poured way too much time into Rogue, Moria, Angband and Zangband back in the day... Sad to see Zangband completely disappeared - no idea if there's a similar flavour floating around.

Played a couple of newer more graphical (and probably better balanced games) but I actually found them less engaging.

My son was madly into Shattered Pixel Dungeon for a while.

I'm concerned that the lack of an effort to make similar communities visible will result in accidental cliques forming, not because the communities are meaningfully different, but because a large portion of their membership are oblivious to the existence of their peers.

Having separate groups, serving the same purpose surely doesn't benefit the participants. It may even turn users away, incorrectly communicating a lack of activity or misrepresenting the true number of like-minded participants.

The only way I can see to avoid this now, is to actively engage in peer-linking. The coalescing of redundant splits in communities can happen later (hopefully with some future assistance from the platform).
