@bec budget differences are more fun when it means more decks. Repeating the same matchup gets boring unless you are very lucky.

@bec A lot of decks are expensive due to their manabase. When trying to compete on a budget stick to decks with fewer colours (but 1 is better than 0 for cost). An all islands manabase is ~free and pretty good, where the ideal 4 colour manabase will be 24 $10~50 cards (or $500 if looking are revised duals).

@Worx Thanks, the answer was mostly correct, but inaccurate in some ways that matter and missed some of the useful info.

@Worx There are two ways these abilities are worded:
* Permission to play/cast a \ in a given <time>
* Instruction to (optionally) play/cast a .

Technically neither grants you the ability to casts spells as an instant. The first doesn't alter the timing of playing spells at all, just gives you the ability to play them from an unusual place (the usual place is from your hand). The second instructs you to cast the spells while the ability resolves, usually you can only play spells (or abilities) when you have priority (and no player has priority while a spell/ability is resolving).

The two wordings are similar, except that the permission version lists a period of time (until the end of your next turn, while the cards are in exile, while ~ is in play, etc). Use the existence of a period of time to figure out which type of ability it is.

@ech I would have sworn the token had replaced a card, but apparently I'm mistaken.

@skele_tron everything I'm keeping (one copy of every playable card) goes in the fatpack box collection (sorted alphabetically).

Trades live in a holiday bundle box. As do cards I'm sorting. Chaff goes in a big box.

@FontMasterFlex @thecdc1995 everything you say is accurate, and a good point. The killer thing that makes it sort of okay is that you can actually find people to play with, and they don't mind you playing janky decks.

That mtga is such a good way to teach the basics means most people shouldn't be going from 0 to commander, so it mostly works.
