100% My job is to stop the team from feeling all the corporate BS as much as possible. I'm an ex-dev myself so my job is to make sure they're OK and that thy're not getting pressure from stakeholders/PMs/POs etc.

A massive amount of tech managers have zero empathy sadly. But I'm the complete opposite. If anyone in my team isn't doing OK they just need to tell me, whether it's financial, personal, work-related etc.

I'm a dev manager... I have 3x4k monitors. I watch server loads, I watch the build pipeline and watch the commit logs etc.

Overkill these days, but I'm also a gamer sooooo....

I tend to find song lyrics, tones of music etc. really hit me super hard. I'm curious to know how others feel?

So a couple of songs to add to this: Oceanlab - Breaking Ties

Randy Boyer & Eric Tadla feat. Dan Sanfilippo - Alive (HeatBeat Mix)

(Sorry, I'm an old-school DJ) But I do want input. I find music really hits me hard, and that's actually OK. So hit me with your songs.

I manage a web dev team. We try to optimise as much as possible but then there's all sorts of tracking that gets tacked on by personalisation teams, opti teams, things like Tik Tok, Facebook, Twitter/X scripts inserted too... It's pretty shit. And sometimes when things break it makes it super hard to debug too

First two (as others have mentioned) can be symptoms of Anhedonia

Shit 2 weeks at work and I'm OK? It's my job to look after my people even if they have fucked up and they have

But I'm not doing great generally. I'm feeling worn down. I will literally expend my all my energy to provide support for my team, but I'm flagging.

I just came back to this thread. What did I start?! :)

Good week overall I think. Work has been a bit crazy which I'm trying to sort out with management to slow things down a bit for the sake of my team and my own mental health. Plus being at conferences doesn't help...

Been losing a decent amount of weight too, about 10kg in the last 3-4 weeks and starting to 'regain' the muscle I had when I was younger and a gym freak. I think this is more just getting my muscles used to regular exercise again so it'll plateau soon. Just trying to get in to a health(ier) routine all in all.

Sadly missed the weekly online co-op gaming session with friends since someone messed up the days. Also bought some new furniture to make the place feel a bit more homely.

So all in all, doing pretty well.

I live right near the MCG and a decent number of people still drive in. I'm not sure why though since the city council makes a fortune by doing the rounds 2 hours in to a game and ticketing everyone without a parking permit (which is a lot of people) and the number of vehicle break-ins is pretty high too.

Plus his incredibly stupid comment of "The laws of mathematics are very commendable, but the only law that applies in Australia is the law of Australia". As someone with a passing knowledge of cryptography that made me head-desk.

It's because he's wearing a double-breasted suit. Not really in fashion anymore.

(Useless fact for you :))

I've done a bunch of transcoding of things to x265 in the past (as I'm sure everyone is aware transcoding isn't GREAT but cuts down on storage costs). With that said I've now moved to AV1. I don't use GPU encoders at all as I found the quality to be pretty terrible. I just use a custom written ZSH script to go through and check the current format (it also converts audio to OPUS too)

A bunch of friends and I have been playing Sniper Elite 5. It's a mixed bag of varied experience. Some are terrible but just enjoy the shit talking (I'm one of those) and others just kick the crap out of the rest of us. But it's a fun bonding experience too since you can have up to 4 teams against each other and just need to make sure there's a fairly even balance.
