I was only talking about your claim that they're selling at a loss, nothing about success or not.
We don't know their BOM so its speculation that they're taking a loss. (Unless I misunderstood your claim)

Valve are only successful or even exist at all
Only as successful as they currently are.
They would have still been successful based on their games, I think, and without steam to "distract" them, they might have counted to 3 by now.
The deck is only successful because Valve is already successful enough to take the first loss on a console
This may be true(and I wouldn't doubt it being the case, at least on the $399 model) but it's pure speculation on your part.
Oh for sure. I'd have to upscale instead of actually use 1200p, but the colors are supposed to be better so It'd be a nice upgrade for me
Yeah, I was hesitant too, but I figured if I screwed up, the most likely part would be the screen.
And if that happened, it'd just be an excuse to get the 1200p screen!
Green is nice looking too, I think if I hadn't had my heart set on atomic purple I would have gone with the opaque blue/purple color shift one.
I've put one on my deck and so far I love it!
The steam and ... buttons are raised more than the stock ones, so you can find them better (though there's no "Steam" text on the button, presumably for legal reasons).
Also on the stock deck I had the B button issue where it could get stuck sometimes, no such problem on the Extremerate one.
The fit is also very good, and it feels good in the hand.
I used to have the jsaux back, but I wasn't fond of the metal "heatsink" and the back didnt seem to mate to the front properly, so there was a slightly raised point I had to sand down, though I did prefer the jsaux raised back buttons.
Edit: I will add that having a good heat gun is recommended, and if I had to do it again, I may skip the trackpads, they were harder (for me) to do than the screen, I felt like I was gonna break them. AND the difference in looks is minor since there's a sticky black pad under them.
Unlikely. APUs aren't that much more powerful yet.
My guess would be Deckard (the rumored VR headset) or possibly a new steam machine. Longshot on that one though, I think.
