That's the crash detection feature; the feature referenced in this article is the ability to use satellite communications in the event that you need help but don't have cell phone reception.

This feature is such a good addition. It was a big reason I upgraded to the iPhone 14 pro last year. We do a lot of hiking as a family and even though most of our hikes take place in the surrounding areas of a major metropolitan region, we often find ourselves in spots with no cell phone reception. Having the ability to call for help in those areas, while I may never actually need it, is a nice feeling.

Thank you for working on this! I love Mlem and am excited to see how it develops.

Very excited to see this! Any place/site we can follow progress and maybe get access to a TestFlight link once available?

One would hope but it’s also terrifying just how small a number of people you need to go full fascist/theocracy. I think Hitler only had the support of 30% of the population at one point. With the way the U.S. electoral system is set up, you don’t need many people to believe a certain way to steer the ship in the wrong direction. That terrifies me.

I agree. Discord is a bad replacement and frustrating as hell to use. They’re trying to get people to use the new Discord forum feature which is a little better visually but it doesn’t solve the other issues you raise.

Yeah if people want to see less discussion about Reddit, they need to just start posting about other topics. I know it will change over time.

It will change. When everything happened with Twitter and a number of people switched over to Mastodon, all people talked about on Mastodon was Twitter. Within a couple of months that shifted dramatically and now I come across much less Twitter-related content. Most of my mastodon feed now is just the topics that I’m interested in. Give it time.
