First at all you need to look at L3 cache speed of your CPU.

Second on memory bandwich.

If some users manifest themselves, the driver will be restored to drivers/net/ as suggested in the linked message.

So if there any users of QLogic 8XXX adapters here, you should try to reach out to them in order to Linux kernel devs wont drop support for it.
