I'm not too worried. I'm already gaming less and less just out of personal lack of interest. Modern games just don't do it for me, and I've accepted I have become part of an older generation. Once in a while it's fun to play a new (or old) game that piques my interest, and when I have some time to kill I might play a round of Overwatch.

But yeah totally recognize that for those who still game many hours a day there's not going to be a perfect solution. Your gaming hobby WILL suffer. But that's probably a good thing; tiny human is the bigger priority (until they're old enough for player two...).

Joining the parent club in about 3 months, but in preparation, I've purchased a "Couchmaster lapboard" and I cannot recommend it enough. Having shoulder support basically makes it feel like you're sitting at your desk but comfortably on the couch. The only issue is the couch itself; if it has a lot of bounce you're gonna have a wobbly desk any time someone sits / stands up from the couch.

Btw I've since found you can pretty much just buy some upholstery foam, cut it, put a plank over it and have your very own "Couchmaster" for roughly $20 instead of $200..

To be fair the "tweet" (what do you call these on mastodon?) itself seems pretty harmless. The title of this post is what I find more objectionable.

This is as exposing as posting about the version number of the app. It's literally information that's given to you on the app store. And if you expected Meta NOT to be data harvesting I don't know what to tell you..

You’d have to be crazy to give Reddit any substantial investment right now. If anything this whole thing has shown that Reddit is nothing without its communities, and the communities don’t care about investors.

Yeah, gaming and the arts are where I can see this AI shine. Aside from mundane artistry, I don't think anyone needs to be worried about their job. This AI isn't going to steal your job because once again; it has no real intelligence. It requires an intelligent person to steer it and process its results. It'll only cost you your job if you don't evolve to use this new tool.

I have a hard time seeing what we are currently calling "AI" evolve to address issues like this. It's not real intelligence, it's just text prediction. It seems fundamentally flawed for use-cases where you need 100% certainty of the answers being appropriate.

This isn't the AI people think it is. And the only danger it poses is irresponsible use.

I might consider paying a monthly fee to benefit the app developer, but seeing as this money effectively goes to reddit that's a no-go.

I wouldn't even have minded paying a monthly fee that benefits reddit if not for how terribly they handled this whole situation. They showed their true colors for everyone to see.

That said I'd give it $5/month at BEST. These prices are insane.

I'm not a lawyer, and I certainly don't know the license to that degree, but if true then it seems reasonable for them to stop freely distributing source code and I'm not sure what people are upset about.. Sucks to lose something you used to get for free, but hardly an injustice.

Sounds like there's nothing stopping these derivative distro's from purchasing the source and continuing on.

Contributing back is besides the point. GPL is infectious, so all of their code which they aren’t releasing the source of is also considered GPL. So unless they release all of the source code they are still non compliant and I have to imagine they’re wel aware of this.

That's totally fair, apologies if I came across a bit blunt. And to be fair: the jury is definitely out on whether this game is "bursting with creativity". My point was just that it being heavily influenced by Daggerfall does not imply a lack of creativity, if anything quite the opposite. That said this is Bethesda and their track record for creativity certainly seems to be on a downward spiral..

[–] Naatan 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Daggerfall itself was a level of creativity we haven't seen in the gaming industry since. Obviously they aren't just reskinning that game cause it's OLD. To say that Starfield is not creative because it is "just" copying Daggerfall sounds a little tonedeaf.
