On my first play through, I completely misunderstood Mass Effect and basically played it like a standard shooter. Hardly used power, didn't talk to anyone and more or less just went from main mission to main mission.

The amount of stuff I missed out on, in retrospect, is staggering. I'm so glad I gave this game another try because I really did not understand what all the fuss was about.

It's easy to forget outside of communities like this how low tech literacy actually is.

I think I don't understand probably 95% of how the internet works and I'm fairly sure that I'm above average in my general understanding.

If the Fediverse really wants to break into the mainstream, and I'm neither saying it does or it should, then these things need to become easier and straightforward.

Joining a server isn't hard, but finding content outside of the server you have chosen can be. Lemmy seems to be better than Mastodon here, but still.

People don't care about federation as such. They want their social network and they want it all, regardless of which server it sits on, and they want it easy.

I've had a Steam Deck since February and it was one of the best purchases in a long time. I originally bought it so I could play on the couch while my wife was using our Xbox or watching something, but it's quickly become one of my primary ways to play.

The form factor and the quick resume function lends itself to a quick gaming session whenever I'm free. One button and I'm in my game right where I left off in a second or two. If I need to get up one click, regardless of what is going on on screen, and the whole thing is paused.

I've finished both small games and AAA titles and really gotten into emulation, which is fantastic.

That being said, you need to go in with realistic expectations. I played Horizon Zero Dawn on the internal screen and had absolutely no problems, but I then wanted to experience God of War in a better resolution on the screen and it just ran out of power. I did end up buying a used PS4 for that after all, by still play on my Deck daily. I would highly recommend it.

Coincidentally, I sometimes feel like I'm wasting my time/life when I am focussing on work or when I am doing too much of the same thing.
