Low morale, Recruiting from prisons, bad pay, bad logistics & supplies, occupying a city you shelled to oblivion. It seems there are plenty of potential suspects.

Dringende adviezen, inlegvelletjes, beleidsmaatregelen.

Kijk, helemaal mee eens.

Missie geslaagd.

Afghans were often killed after allegedly producing weapons when separated from their wider family by SAS soldiers, but there were five incidents where the number shot dead exceeded the number of weapons found.

Well

Always interesting to get a glimpse of the inner workings of a government.

Especially if some official recommendations turn out to conflict with the policies.

Ukraine needs the West to give it ‘shells, planes and patience’ - that was the message from top commander Valeriy Zaluzhniy in an interview with the Washington Post. Many Western observers say Ukraine's counter offensive is failing to make significant progress. Kyiv says it's making slow but steady gains, but admits that Russian forces have also advanced in some areas. DW’s Nick Connolly reports.

cross-posted from: https://lemmyunchained.net/post/6958

First off, let me start by saying I'm a big proponent of donations as a means of supporting platforms like Lemmy, and their hosts. This approach, when carried out in the spirit of transparency and community engagement, can do wonders for the growth and sustainability.

Hosting an instance myself, I’m fully aware of the costs associated with running servers, handling traffic, and providing the best possible experience for users. I am Lucky that im in a position where right now I am able to wear that coat, but I am more than willing to financially support other instances where I find value (and I have), and I have no doubt many of you feel the same way. But while we're on this topic, I think it's important to talk about financial transparency.

As users, we entrust these platforms with our time, our discussions, and in the case of donations, our hard-earned money. I believe it's fair to ask for a little insight into how our contributions are being used. What proportion goes towards server costs, maintenance, development, staffing, or perhaps even community projects?

My hope is for Lemmy instances to set a precedent by adopting an 'open book' policy when it comes to spending. It would be a great step towards fostering trust and engagement in our community.

There are plenty of platforms out there which handle donations, but I wonder if there's one that already facilitates such transparency? If not, I believe it would be a worthy endeavor to find or create one that does.

Would you appreciate more transparency on how donations are spent? And do you know of any donation platforms that encourage this level of openness? Your feedback is always appreciated, as at some point, I may need to do the same.

I guess that was not in the manual.

Day 494: Today there is a lot of news from the Orikhiv direction.

After Ukrainians pushed Russians from the last line of fortification in from of Robotyne, Ukrainians shifted their focus to the flanks. The main goal of Ukrainians right now is to improve their tactical position around Robotyne prior to attempting to take it.

Ukraine's second big push of their highly anticipated counteroffensive is only days away. The pressure is on for Ukraine to prove to NATO that it can make large gains before the Vilnius Summit in two weeks.

Meanwhile, Putin tries to erase Prigozhin's name from Russian society. The Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant remains a dangerous situation.

Entry to Crimea appears to have been cut off or greatly reduced from videos and information coming from Taman, the village on the Russian side of the Kerch bridge. This may be connected to the Nuclear powerplant at the ZNPP which many suggest may be blown up because of Ukraine's counteroffensive.

Meanwhile Ukraine is taking ground near Robotyne, and Zelensky reaffirms that Ukraine must regain their territory before NATO membership.

This morning in the city of Zhanghua, donors announced a large-scale humanitarian shipment for Ukraine. It includes 48 vehicles, including more than 20 ambulances, at least 6 fire trucks, and several dozen jeeps and minibuses for the needs of Ukrainian defenders at the front.

The initiator of the project is a local businessman, Sanzhong Bai. He was the person who started buying used cars and sponsored their repair and conversion.

The MIG-29 is not suited to engage small targets such as the Shahed or cruise missiles since the aircraft's avionics and radar system are not very advanced. So F-16s are critical for Ukraine as an offensive strategy and to intercept missiles and cruise bombs beyond Ukrainian territories, potentially saving the lives of thousands of civilians. We talk about this in our video interview with a Ukrainian pilot.

  • A Russian missile strike in the Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk left several dead and dozens injured.
  • Kyiv said it caught a Russian sleeper agent who was monitoring the restaurant before the strike.
  • The agent allegedly filmed the restaurant and sent footage to Russia's GRU, Ukraine said.

Switzerland is expanding its sanctions against Russia in line with the EU’s 11th package of sanctions, the Swiss government announced on June 28.
