I'll be permanently shutting down lemmy.click on Tuesday 11th July 2023.

Any users still here should sign up elsewhere.

This may be of use to migrate your settings to a new instance.

Looks like memory exhaustion may be what kills the site. The lemmy database is using more and more RAM, will see how long it works for...

I'll be shutting down lemmy.click, I don't know exactly when. The database continues to grow, and I'm not going to upgrade the VPS any further. I'll leave it running until the disk fills, which I expect to be in the next few weeks:

I suggest everyone interested in continuing to use Lemmy find an alternate instance to call home. There are many more to choose from since lemmy.click was created.

I apologise for the inconvenience, lemmy.click was within the first 100 Lemmy instances. At the time I spun it up, growth was much slower.

I appreciate the sentiment, but I'm just not sure its worth it to anyone. This instance is running on a $6 USD per month Digital Ocean VPS in Singapore. 1 vCPU, 1GB RAM, 25GB disk. The disk is rapidly up.

The lemmy database is currently 2.5GB, with 13GB free disk space after clearing some logs, temporary files etc. Will keep an eye on it to get an idea how long it will last.

Honestly... you may be better served elsewhere. I spun this up before the massive boom in instances. I think this was about ~90 when created. Also before I had any idea of what the ongoing resource requirements would be.

For now I'm leaving the server as is, but I suspect it will reach a point where the resources available are not enough to continue operating. I'm not planning on spending more to upgrade the VPS any further. (this is not asking for money, just being honest)

You're welcome to stay as long as the server is running, but I can't guarantee how long that will be.

This is intended as a "reader" instance. I don't plan on creating any local communities that would require moderation by me.
