I would suggest looking at his different interests and getting curious. If you're interested in the guy, it should be pretty easy to find reasons why this film or that game are endearingly-this-or-that in a way that makes you like and respect him even more.

Then, you bond over it; by trusting his taste (intimacy) enough to check out that show or whatever interest, you now have an opportunity to get deep (intimacy) into what you each individually felt (intimacy) about it, and maybe you felt something in common. That's some foundation for intimacy.

Being a Group 1 carcinogen, let's analyze it with other carcinogens in the same group: is there such a thing as "won't actually harm you" amounts of asbestos? What about "won't actually harm you" exposure to ionizing radiation?

We don't know which DNA damage will turn into cancer, but each exposure to a group 1 carcinogen is another lotto ticket bought to see if you won cancer. You will never buy a lotto ticket that doesn't have a chance of winning.

ETA and then there's the non-cancer effects that just increase cardiac problems and stroke risk.

Furthermore, as "the fourth estate," at it's best journalism serves as a check on the power of the state and power - especially corporations. The muckrakers of the early 20th century, like Upton Sinclair, raised public awareness of corporate monopolies and unsafe worker conditions. Journalism was instrumental in fostering the knowledge and will necessary to claw workplace rights and protections from the rising capitalist class.
