We dont use the CPE term often in the UK. It's modem ONT router etc.

yea that's fair! I'm just looking for a term to use in my documentation for a site that has both modems and ONTs and i want to label them "xxx1" and "xxx2".
You can call them CPE or Customer Premise Equipment.
This sounds technically correct but too provider-side for my application (i.e. others that are looking at my documentation won't know what it means)
