Swapping back and forth all of the time is getting to be a monotonous. I would like to sell one and keep the other. In the beginning I was very partial to the explorer but sometimes I can’t imagine not having the date function. Plus the DJ does sit a larger on the wrist and that is also nice. Tough choice here to just walk away with one…So help me decide because I am really at an impasse with this..

I would go with the explorer. I am not wild about 2-toned bands and I like the numbers on the dial.

Keep the Explorer.

I hate explorers and any 3,6,9 dials. Ugly as hell.

Date just looks classier.

[–] cdaack@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Left. Or you can sell it to me 😂

[–] Astorga97@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

i like the explorer's overall brushed finish compared to the mostly polished on the datejust. guess it comes down to what you're looking for in the finish

[–] Distance_Runner@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Personally, I prefer the Datejust. I prefer watches with date and think it’s more versatile for most people.

DJ looks classier and I need a date function. I’ve also never liked the look of the Explorer on anything other than a bracelet, whereas the DJ looks good on a leather strap too.

Right, I hate the hands and giant numbers of the left

personally, I’d go with the explorer, only because I feel like everyone has the datejust lol but I’m also pretty neutral about having a date function so it’s not a dealbreaker

I would go for the Explorer. I'm not a fan of PCL's, they scratch far to easily.

I sold the right to get the left. DJ is an incredible watch….the explorer just a bit more special.

Always Explorer

[–] pdxtrader@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

The right one is speaking to me, love the contrasting brushed/polished metals

[–] Busy_Fly8068@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

DJ.

I’m in the super minority, but the Explorer dial on wrist looks oddly proportioned. Maybe the Arabic numbers are too big — I don’t feel that was with 34mm references that have Arabic numbers. It doesn’t seem that way in pictures but on wrist I was instantly turned off.

Explorer for me.

[–] ninjagaidanblackman@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I prefer the explorer. Both are lovely watches though.

[–] TantiveIVfromATL@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I'd keep the Explorer of the two...not a big fan of polished center links.

[–] LTCM1998@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Left is infinitely cooler …there can be no other answer.

my choice would be explorer

[–] TheModerateGenX@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not sure why it’s “monotonous” to change the watch you pick for the day, but if I had to pick one I would take the right.

i love the explorer, but you mentioned the date, so if it is something you value more over looks, keep the datejust

[–] Fourty-Six@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Keep the explorer, sell the DJ and use that money made to invest in a dressy (with a date) watch?

[–] willghammer@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

DJ. I think the Explorer II is far superior to I

[–] MrMESSl@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Right. All day long. Not even close.

Explorer IMO. if it was good enough for Don Draper, it’s good enough for you. I also think it has more personality / a more distinctive design language than the Datejust.

Explorer FTW

[–] faintlymacabre1518@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Right! I am somewhat biased against having huge numerals like the Explorer does, and that colours my judgement quite a bit. That said, the Datejust looks more versatile as it has a more dressy feel than the casual-only look of the Explorer, plus the date function is something I would consider to be important as well.

[–] midLevelManagement@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

For a black dial, the Explorer has always felt like a more well-balanced design. The brushed case, the 3/6/9 against the black dial, and lack of the white date wheel makes it feel like a more cohesive package to me. With different dial colors, I think the Datejust really shines, and it would be a harder choice. Just my opinion though - both beautiful watches.

[–] Chill_stfu@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Explorer. It's awesome.

Also I hate the cyclops.

[–] b4c0n333@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I don't know too much about rolex, I'm not a fan of the date window, but I'm even less of a fan of the font for the Explorer's numerals, and I think the date just looks better overall

[–] itemluminouswadison@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I too am a date bitch and for that reason alone, the DJ

For a daily driver I’d pick the DJ. I gotta have the date. Plus I like stick markers better than 3-6-9, it’s a cleaner look.

[–] Obvious_Change_1566@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Explorer, but explorer is the only Rolex I’d personally consider.

[–] Ordinary-Ad5776@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I vote the explorer. It is a professional model and DJ is not. Explorer has a better clasp than DJ. I also think the Mercedes hand on explorer looks more detailed than the hands on DJ. Explorer can be a grail for some people but I rarely hear that about the DJ
