Hi guys so something weird I noticed about youtube and their enhanced premium experiments. Last week I had enhanced premium availble as an option. I don't use youtube premium so I went with stock 1080p. Quality was kinda degreaded.

This week however the enhanced 1080p was missing but the video quality for 1080p looked considerably better

Any thoughts?

I recommend comparing the video quality from Youtube to an external scraping site like this Piped instance in the future. This would ensure you get to see any difference side by side to any further odd quality options offered by Youtube.

These were captured using Piped; with preferences configured for it to use whichever Codec is available to it.

Piped will prefer codecs in the following order:

  • AV1
  • VP9
  • AVC (h.264)

Looks like it has the enhanced option for me and it is weirdly crusty for a 2d cartoon.

I'm noticing an inconsistency between the images.

The image you provided for the 1080p non-premium seems cropped differently than the other two images.

Yeah I had to eyeball the frame (not best way)
