Hi guys! I was wondering how you all deal with Microsoft Teams at work. Is there some kind of alternate frontend app or everyine is just sticking to web app ?

I always assume I have zero privacy at work and/or on work computers. Are you trying to use it on your personal computer or something? If so I'd advise against that. Teams and Office 365 are notorious for their monitoring and reporting to managers.

Yea, sadly i have to work on my private pc..

I'd just use a different PC from my usual, and treat it as a compromised device.

My work laptop is connected to a switch port with one VLAN, which is isolated from my private network.

Perhaps you could get a cheap laptop off eBay to use as a dedicated work computer and then claim it as a work expense on your taxes depending where you live. Or you could try running it in a virtual machine but that may be too cubersome and fiddly for productive daily work.

No way around it then, is there? Run it in a container or VM... either way, Teams has some a lot of reporting features in the name of efficiency and productivity:

  • Reading your messages, even the deleted ones
  • Timing your activity and participation, online availability, etc.
  • File activity
  • Essentially everything except direct message and remote chat

Some employers do not lock down the Azure Active Directory and you might be able to remove some of your personal data if you need to.

If you are worried about communicating non-work personal stuff, DM or remote chat is the only option.

Any app provided by work is as transparent as cling film. Your screen is likely being recorded too.

If you wish to talk to colleagues in private, take it elsewhere.
