Really wish Christian would bring Apollo to Lemmy in the same fashion
Maybe he's not saying anything but then will drop a fully polished app out of nowhere like that Beyoncé album
That would be amazing.
Memmy is already shaping up as a great client. Already very full featured. And with how fast the dev is updating, it’ll be awesome.
At least we'll have Memmy and Artemis
Here is a list of Apps coming to Lemmy:

Plenty for iOS to chose from, Christian’s legacy continues. Memmy and Mlem both feel pretty close to Apollo - and are both directly inspired by it.
These apps are in early beta. They have constant updates (daily for Memmy and weekly for Mlem), so you can kind of see them being built in real time. If you’re patient with the developers, you’ll get that Apollo experience very soon. It’s like 80% of the way there.
Liftoff is pretty cool too, though it’s a different design approach.
(I’m using Memmy now, actually.)
Great summary!
Memmy mafia represent!
SyncForLemmy sub is unavailable outside the app!
Yeah, that made me chuckle. Reddit is really trying to make sure I move on completely.
I like how they imply viewing it in the app suddenly makes the subreddit safe. They use the same trick in NSFW subreddits to get people to install thier app.
This is fantastic. Sync was the best and I tried multiple apps but kept coming back.
I always used baconreader because I'm after really compact and full function with options. I don't want giant image cards because I'm ten million years old (I'm not, I just like the outcome of having to design around simplicity and efficiency).
However, an actual app? Made by a popular, experienced, and successful app dev? I will 100% pay for and use that even though it's not my preferred design philosophy.
Lemmy and kbin are... alright as they are, but chrome is such a pos for multitasking and I would really love some clarity and consistency to the ux design across different instances and more and better options.
What I really want, ideally, is baconreader to make a universal fediverse app - but the likelihood of anybody making a universal app and that's good is very low, let alone my favorite 3rd party reddit app dev that's already said they don't plan on it.
Try Jerboa if you're on Android. It's made by the Lemmy devs and has had an explosion of activity and growth since Rexxit.
Liftoff is look good too
Jerboa is ok. It certainly isn't perfect but it's getting there. I've always liked baconreader too.
BaconReader was my favourite as well. I hope the developer uses the opportunity come the end of the month to push users to the fediverse.
Jerboa is fine, but it's not as good as some of the Reddit apps.
Anyway it's great to see developers of Reddit apps releasing apps for Lemmy, because UI wise it's so close that they will probably be able to reuse most of their code. We'll get all the maturity of these apps on day 1 of the release, and competition between the apps will be healthy.
There's usually options for "list" view instead of "card" view.
Dude you can customize sync to make it super compact
Sync was completely customizable. You wouldn't believe how compact I made mine.
I couldn't use anything else after Relay. But I will gladly take Sync over the mobile site.
Ljdawson is a fucking legend
Lemmy is cool and all so far... Hopefully the other communities make it over here.
If you want a particular community you can create it!
I created a sublemmy for PhotoshopRequest. Please spread the word as it'll help. Thanks! You may check it here
I think we should stick to calling them communities. That is an apt description of what they are and I don't see the point in trying desperately to replicate everything reddit.
I agree
Yeah plus it makes sense given the /c/
Fuck yeah. I'm a grown ass man, and I feel like a child at Christmas Eve.
Honestly this feels like reddit in the old days hahaha
Stupid question, but what's the difference between kbin and lemmy? I thought kbin was a lemmy instance.
Kbin is a different software.
Ah, thank you
It also includes microblogging so it's like a mix of lemmy and mastadon (and federates with both)
From an end user point of view, there's not much difference other than the UI (and because of differing APIs, different third party apps too). It's fully interoperable with Lemmy (and Mastodon).
Behind the scenes on the server, though, it's a completely different piece of software.
Can you subscribe to kbin communities with a user made on a lemmy instance and post, and the other way around? I was under the impression that kbin and lemmy instances don't really mix that well. But maybe that's just because the clients we have right now are limited.
You can, yep. You can skidaddle over to kbin.social and give it a go.
The important thing to remember is that all of the stuff that you do with your account (subscribing, posting, commenting etc.) is actually done by the server your account is on. The way you "interact" with users/content on other servers is that once you've "done something" on your server, it then let's other servers know about it (via federation).
So if you're a Lemmy user and say "I want to subscribe to tech@kbin.social", your Lemmy server will go away and pull down all the info for that community from kbin.social and start displaying it in your feed. If you create a post on that community, your Lemmy server will send a message to kbin.social containing all the info it needs to create the post.
Lemmy and kbin fully federate together, so all this works just the same as kbin-to-kbin or Lemmy-to-Lemmy. As also mentioned, kbin also has "microblogging" (Twitter-like posting) as well as Reddit-like thread posting, and fully federates with Mastodon in the same way.
Think of it as GMail and Yahoo! Mail. It's still emails at the end of the day but the UI looks different and their servers are definitely different.
That’s not a stupid question.
But it was just talked about in a giant thread the other day.
Do search engines even index this shit?
When I Google stuff, I can’t find anything here.
Will be buying the pro version as soon as I can!!!
This is awesome. The kbin support is gonna go over really well too.
Very excited for kbin support!
Fantastic!
Amazing news!
Kbin support is exciting. Should be interesting.
What the fuck is this bullshit?
