Cuz you can just use another smaller instance, as you should.

Lemmy.zip and lemm.ee are cool

[–] Fibby@lemm.ee 22 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Everyone talking about how small and better lemm.ee is really starting to give "have you heard about this hidden gem The Witcher 3?" vibes.

[–] agoseris@lemm.ee 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

lemm.ee isn't even that small. It's the 6th largest active lemmy instance iirc

[–] boot@lemmy.loungerat.io 18 points 1 year ago

Hidden. Gem.

For all the people that like to talk about having access to the whole fediverse and decide for themselves who to block...

mander.xyz and ttrpg.network are both rather niche instances in their own right, but don't defederate, and I don't believe are defederated by, anyone.

No one join them and say/do anything toxic though, don't ruin a good thing for me lol

[–] altima_neo@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah, .zip represent

[–] The_Worst@feddit.nl 32 points 1 year ago (1 children)

IF you want to switch to an alternative instance use the tool Lasim to synchronize your accounts: synchronize subscriptions, settings and/or blocks. Tool is available for Windows, Linux and MacOs.

[–] TokenBoomer 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Just tried macOS. Didn’t work.

[–] tea@lemmy.today 16 points 1 year ago

Probably because lemmy.world is down again.

Wait for lemmy.world to be back up and try again. If you can't login on the web, the tool won't be able to login either.

[–] The_Worst@feddit.nl 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh that's a pity. Switched from lemmy.world to feddit.nl flawlessly today. Using Windows though.

[–] TokenBoomer 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My MAC wouldn’t let me run the .exe because of security. Am I supposed to bypass security?

[–] The_Worst@feddit.nl 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Did you download the zip for MacOS? Exe is only for Windows I believe?

And I don't know if you are supposed to bypass security. I only have very limited Mac experience.

[–] TokenBoomer 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I may try again later. I have a windows pc I can try it on.

[–] The_Worst@feddit.nl 3 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

As tea@lemmy.today said, make sure www.lemmy.world is online. If you cant visit www.lemmy.world then the tool won't work either.

[–] scytale@lemm.ee 28 points 1 year ago (6 children)

I'm actually seeing more and more .world users getting pissed as the downtimes become more frequent now.

[–] upturned8393@lemmy.ml 22 points 1 year ago

I mean that is the problem of too many people being on that one instance.

[–] jetsetdorito@lemm.ee 9 points 1 year ago

I moved instances after the downtime when Sync came out, it's been smooth sailing since

[–] 011@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I just did the move. Tired of having the website offline and no info. Will delete the account soon

Thinking of the same thing, but if I delete my account on an instance, do the comments and posts from that account also get deleted?

If only federation existed... and other instances existed....

[–] seitanic@lemmy.sdf.org 3 points 1 year ago (2 children)

I made an account on sdf.org because I got tired of lemmy.world's servers going down. But I found out that SDF's servers often go down, too...

[–] saltedFish@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 1 year ago

tchncs is pretty stable so far

Tbh I've just stopped using my world account at this point. Lemmy.ca has been much more reliable so far lol.

[–] 15liam20@feddit.uk 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Until a moose power - fucks the servers

As long as it's filmed for the content. Need to feed the meme machine.

Outside attack : usual shitheads. And if ~~LM~~ LW fails, they will attack the next big one.

Edit #1 : LM is Lemmy.world
Edit #2 : oups LW ... not LM
Edit #3 : Lemmy.World status
Edit #4 : from 4am utc //24h :

users who wanted LM explanation :@SnowdenHeroOfOurTime@unilem.org
@15liam20@echo@feddit.uk

[–] 200ok@lemmy.ca 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Interesting, thanks for sharing. Is that info publicly available?

LW is currently down (for me, at least) and I'm curious if it tends to happen at the same time every day.

[–] A_A@lemmy.ca 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

From the sidebar of the main page of lemmy.world, so :

That 76% was 2 hours ago, now at 74%

Same reason I am here. I had two small communities for my interests there, but it was down so often that I decided to move here AND move my communities. This place seems a lot more stable. That's really the downside of huge servers on lemmy IMO. If communities centralize on one server, whenever that one server is down, so are the communities for everyone.

I would totally run my own server but I'm not tech enough. I have spare hardware, and I have a 1GB fiber connection, but I am not a network security expert, so I am afraid my home IP address would be targeted and disrupt my house Internet in general. Even if I don't allow others to create account or communities on my server, I still feel like it's a risk for me because I am not skilled enough to deal with threats.

[–] jackpot@lemmy.ml 8 points 1 year ago (2 children)

wjats so good about lemmy.world compared to lemmy.ml

[–] Kerrigor@kbin.social 13 points 1 year ago

More letters

[–] meldrik@lemmy.wtf 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lemmy.world is run by the same people as mastodon.world. I guess a lot of users from mastodon.world went to Lemmy.world and the rest was word of mouth.

[–] Laticauda@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago (3 children)

I think the name does a lot of heavy lifting in regards to pulling in new users. It sounds more official or general because of the world part.

[–] tea@lemmy.today 7 points 1 year ago

Yeah, people just want a "generic" place because they generally don't want to be pidgeon holed. I have nice and inoffensive lemmy.world and lemmy.today accounts because of this. I'm basically a vanilla NPC in my life and "sh.itjust.works" is simply too spicy!

[–] Default_Defect@midwest.social 3 points 1 year ago

This is more or less what I thought when I first joined.

[–] victron@lemm.ee 3 points 1 year ago

Also Sync has it as default.

[–] AzuleBlade@lemm.ee 7 points 1 year ago

I switched to lemm.ee, it's much more stable since it's not constantly being attacked by script kiddies. I have a theory a user got banned, and is making it their personal mission to ruin .world's performance. Please donate to your home instance owner(s) if they have that set up. Even if it's just a little, it can make everyone's experience better.

[–] csolisr@communities.azkware.net 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

My home instance managed to get blocked by Lemmy World's Cloudflare firewall, probably because my Pleroma/Akkoma account and my Lemmy account are on the exact same IP.

this is the opposite on reddit (obvious reasons). ppl go ham when someone mentions lemmy.world is down lol

[–] HurlingDurling@lemm.ee 5 points 1 year ago

Reddit servers down? Didn't notice

[–] Resonosity@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Lemmy[.]ca user for this reason haha

[–] robinslave@lemmy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

that's exactly the reason I made an account here
