I think a better option would be to subtly highlight all new comments -- parent or otherwise.

I think this will eventually make it into the app. There are lots of requests and bugs to fix so it can take some time for specific things to be added. But I've had features added, as well as bugs fixed, without a reply from the dev. Sometimes they even forget to mention it in the update notes or sticky post.
