I spent some time out at Lake Michigan this last Christmas. My first time seeing snow and I definitely wasn't ready for taking photos in this kind of cold. Had to take my gloves off to work the work the camera, snow bits and sand flying towards the lens and I even fell through the ice at the shore!

Still, my time there really makes me want to travel around and take some photos across the USA.

Lol, this just showed up on my local feed for lemmy.fmhy.ml instance.

I have zero real idea how the fediverse works yet, so I'll take what I can get!

Eh, what camera are you using? Ideally you should be able to work through gloves.

Great shot btw.

Appreciate that! Was using my Sony a7iv. I had these really thick thermal gloves on - I'm from South Florida and it was freezing. I'd recently switched to all-manual shooting and couldn't quite manipulate the dials (especially ISO). I was ill-prepared overall to be out there and having wet pants after falling through made the rest of those shots even more fun...lots of wind off the lake!

Ah, right, those can be iffy, but at least the A7IV I recall has bigger buttons that you can work with most gloves.

That's one thing I like about Nikons, they're generally very glove friendly.

Before I went anywhere cold I'd practice a bit first with gloves to see if I could operate the camera as much as possible. I always do a practice run with new gear, be it cameras or gloves.
