Hey all,

I'm trying to get my own instance running, but I'm pretty inexperianced with a lot of this "stuff" even besides federation. I tried the tutorial for docker, got hung up because I know nothing about docker, so I stopped and reset. Then I found a 3rd party tutorial, which got me to a running website, but I got to a point where I couldn't figure out what config was set up with the wrong connection info, so I stopped and reset.

Now I'm trying to follow the official "from scratch" tutorial, but now trying to run the cargo install command, and it's looking for a dependency "Protoc". I tried running cargo add protoc, but then it tells me it can't find a "Cargo.toml" in root; is there something I'm missing here? Is there something else I should be reading up on before attempting this? I've used Linux etc before but it was mostly limited to Raspberry Pi or setting up a Kodi box so it seems there's a lot of extra knowledge I just don't have
