I want, so badly, to like Thunderbird. I've just never been able to get past the UI. It always feels just a little behind

Agree. I use mailspring for this reason, (I love the UI), but it is not as feature packed as Thunderbird.

Agreed. I really hope this new sidebar will give it a huge boost in terms of overall feeling, and I hope it's the start of even more great UI designs later

Looking nice. I've been through most of the email software available and because I use slower laptops, its always Thunderbird I come back to as it loads the quickest and has the most features. I'm looking forward to the new version.
