I never use an app, official or otherwise, for reddit. I left because I disagree with reddit's management and believe the changes will negatively impact modding. I also expect other changes I disagree with given IPO goals. They want users to use their new UI or official mobile app. They will likely try to clean up the site to make it more ad friendly at some point.
Well, to be more accurate, the reddit stuff was due to API changes, which would result in fewer 3rd party apps. (and arguably designed for this result).
The kbin API is still a WIP, but it's free to use.
Well, I came here over corporate greed and abusive mods long before the API changes :P
the fedivers will never be able to ban 3rd party apps - because everything is build on apis that are open. thats the true beauty.
There is at least 1 app coming together right now for kbin by /u/hariette - I'm sure it's not the only one.
Is it posted anywhere ?
[EDIT]
Nevermind, found it: https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/19856
My phone just magically told me there's a kbin pwa, install? I did. Dunno where it went tho after that. No new icon on my phone.
It's just a container for the mobile site, still better than the official reddit app lol
Jerboa on Android works pretty well! I'm posting from it right now 😁
kbin works with Jerboa?
The real shower thought is that every instance's app/PWA is itself a 3rd party app to the Fediverse
The thing is, this is a third party app. The platform we're on is the Fediverse, it's just third party apps. No, they don't provide the same thread-like experience that you get on kbin, but for now, there's not much a difference in simply browsing kbin instances from Mastodon apps or the similar. This isn't currently great for kbin.social with all the troubles federating, but explore your options!
Um I don't really understand that thought. Is there an official Lemmy app? What do you think "third party app" means? Posted from Jerboa for Lemmy..
we're not all using lemmy ;)
It was definitely a portion of the move; more like "straw that broke the camel's back."
This! Also I'm 110% sure that there will be a lot of cool 3rd party apps for the fediverse.
You could argue that it's third party apps all the way down.
100% this. Don't like the UI on your current server? There's lots of federated options that all look and feel different and still give you access to the same content.
Kbin have PWA tho
We left reddit because it killed 3rd party apps that it needs to be functional.
I came here because the experience is already better without 3PA.
Also, this is my inaugural comment on kbin. Hello world!
