I migrated fully from reddit. Deleted my comments and account. This will be my replacement for r/archlinux
Arch Linux
The beloved lightweight distro
Yeah, I'm here for the foreseeable future.. my rif app is gone, and I don't think I'll reinstallinstall it, just like when twitter became fedilab (I'm on linuxrocks.online over there), rif is now jerboa. And I'm going deeper into the fediverse.
And I'll admit... Since I joined both apps have been growing on me quite fast
I've been feeling a bit done with reddit for a while now. This is the first time I see such a viable alternative! I really think if things like this pick up traction the internet will get better for once.
Supporting open source while doing so.
This is likely my new home for all random things archlinux. Thank you for establishing it.
yep! the only thing i used reddit for (other than funny pictures, which we could all realistically do without) was tech support and discussing linux-related topics. And it seems, at least for now, the userbase swings pretty heavily towards tech savvy people so I'm sure this place will be great :)
Yep! I'm going to hand my subreddits over to others in their respective communities, and possibly delete my account after that.
I have high hopes for Lemmy.
Im sticking with the fediverse.
I can't even remember if I subscribed to r/archlinux over there, I've eradicated my account now so it doesn't really matter. The important bits are (1) I'm an Arch user, amd64 and arm7hf mainly. (2) I'm subbed to this community. May it live long and prosper!
Yes
Let's see... I like the ideals of Lemmy, just hope we can get enough memes...
I'll give Lemmy a try, now and currently this seems to be the "to go" community for Arch Linux. So I'll be around here for a while.
I just made an account today, planning on deleting reddit soon
It's just that .ml is down currently. So a bit hard to tell how this keeps working. Buuut nice to see you.
The lemmy.ml situation is unfortunate. This is the time where people will be interested to check alternatives out and the only community named after arch linux is down. I don't know if we should give it a couple of days or just start another community elsewhere.
Do you know why it's down?
There was a comment by one of the devs, which I've lost now, saying they misconfigured ipv6 and this caused 502 errors. It seems to be up now. We will see how things go from here.
Planning on it for the most part, likely to use in conjunction with reddit if they reverse API decisions though.
Yep, most likely permanently here from now on instead of reddit. Caught myself opening Infinity twice on the 11th so I uninstalled it. :)
Im done with reddit for now, so here i shall stay
It's going to take a little time and maturing of the software but I think the fediverse had a bright future.
I started using Lemmy last week and for a couple days it was slow (in terms of activity). But especially after Monday, activity is REALLY starting to pick up. I have high hopes for Lemmy and hope not to go back to Reddit.
Let's see if this works out. 😺
I have just subscribed to as many Lemmy equivalents to my subreddits as I could find. I plan to make Lemmy a permanent part of my browsing. Already contemplating on whether I should delete my Reddit account but I am still waiting out the situation to see what happens. What /u/spez has said doesn't give me much hope though. I do hope Lemmy takes off. The limited browsing I've done on Lemmy has already convinced me that its a better experience than Reddit from a UI / UX perspective.
probably... just hope all the toxicity stays away
I'm migrating here! Just now setting up my Arch distro but I'll engage where I can.
I just joined recently and I'm really enjoying lemmy so far. It's great not having an algorithm trying to guess what I want to view all the time and it's just nice having the power to search for topics that I actually want to discuss.
I certainly came here via the controversy. Glad to have found Lemmy, really.
Definitely, ditched my Reddit account. I was already unhappy with Reddit for some time, so while others are mad about the API changes, for me it's the best that could happen because it made me discover Lemmy.
I am really tired of Reddit. Unfortunately, Reddit's user don't care about the API decisions. Screw Reddit.
I also deleted RedReader (Reddit APP) and just subscribed to a few groups here in the Fediverse
I'm slowly unsubscribing from Reddit. All tech sub's have to be on Lemmy/behaw now or I can do without. 50% of the subs I was subscribed to are just wastes of time anyways and they are gone too.
Hope this place indeed thrives! It's so annoying that social media companies take user contributions as their private properites.
