This looks incredible - do you actually put the haloumi on the grill in big pieces? It doesn’t melt or anything?
oh I'm sorry, that was misleading. I incorrectly used "grilled"; I put it on a pan with a little oil. Made sure to cut it into thin-ish (~1cm) slices. Flipped when golden, then done when all-golden. Fairly low heat.
I think a grill would be asking for trouble! 😅
I've never tried it myself, but you definitely can put halloumi on the grill.
Halumi is a non melting cheese, like paneer (you can sub this, its less trendy/expensive)
If you put it on a BBQ (Foukou in Cyptiot, where Halloumi is pretty much from, but not technically [https://www.ancient-origins.net/news-history-archaeology/halloumi-cheese-0017279](as ancient halloumi has been found in Egypt, dating long before the Byzantine period), and then put it in pita bread, its a great snack/starter meal.
Edit: add some grilled mushrooms with parsley as a garnish and a load of fresh lemon squeezed on them, and you have a mouth watering snack
