This would be ideal!!!

A nice place to discuss rumors, happenings, innovations, and challenges in the technology sphere. We also welcome discussions on the intersections of technology and society. If it’s technological news or discussion of technology, it probably belongs here.

Being able to have one account/identity across the fediverse would be amazing.
Agreed. It's the one thing I kind of worry about with the fediverse. I don't want to lose my account and subscriptions if and when the instance I signed up for gets shut down due to lack of funds
Wonder if someone could use the feddie instances as a sort of block chain for storing account auth info. Any instance could validate a users login by talking to other instances. If an instance goes down, that login and user info would still be stored in other instances and never in just one.
FYI: I seem to be unable to respond to comments.
Make sure you select the language of your post before you click the "Post" button.
Jerboa doesn't seem to have that option?
Jerboa is very limited unfortunately. I would recommend using the website to change your settings.
I posted a couple of comments in one of the chat threads and they don't seem to have appeared. Wonder if that's a Jerboa thing
Fair enough. I'm primarily using the browser. There's a "select language" option to the right of the "Reply Cancel Preview" button stack.
But to that point... you've responded to this comment just fine :)
I sure did! Don't know why it's working on this post and not on my last one. My experience today has been a bit frustrating.
Depending on the post the origin server might have had outages or whatnot. For instance Lemmy.ml is going up and down like a yo-yo. If the main server hosting that content is down your instance might have some issues sending stuff off it it I suppose? I'm relatively new to this myself and still working out all the weird quirks. Watching the digest messages for all the content in the logs is interesting in of itself.
Being able to centralise your own identity server (with your choice of authentication method ideally) and federate the services/content would be a great option for those who want one identity across the fediverse.
New to the tech, but if that identity server could also act as your ActivityPub ‘master’ server for all services so you have a login that when entered to any instance would show all your messages and subscriptions could make for a great experience.
I'm new and still trying to wrap my head around fediverse. What exactly are the restrictions when only using one account?
If you are trying to view Lemmy communities on Mastodon all of the posts and comments get jumbled together. Pixelfed can't see anything from Lemmy and only image posts from Mastodon. None of the services track each other's likes or reblogs.
Every account is separate, all the messages and activity are isolated from each other, a proposal like suggested would allow you to have a single identity across all servers and services
Yeah, this is my main issue too. Some kind of account container that could propagate round the fediverse rather than a centralised lookup would be better and more in keeping with the ethos imo.
Potentially instances could opt to load balance with each other in that case when usage rises.
