For example: I tried to search all 3 communities from sopuli.xyz featured in this comment https://kbin.social/m/lemmy@lemmy.ml/t/2938/Which-subreddits-would-you-most-like-to-see-on-Lemmy/comment/6790/

search for y2kaesthetics did not work
for frutigeraero returned only my comment linked above
only for weirdcore succeeded

I feel like cross-instance community discovery should be improved. Searching for "linux" should bring up all communities from all federated instances. I should be able to merge instances for viewing, so that I can see both @linux and @linux as a single feed.

Searching for "linux" should bring up all communities from all federated instances.

This is already working for me today: I discovered several magazines this way, and a search for "linux" brings up groups on other instances:

https://kbin.social/magazines?q=linux

The third result on that page is @linux@lemmy.ml – do you not see the same?

I should be able to merge instances for viewing

As long as it's optional and you're able to choose which ones you merge.

I totally get how that could be useful, but it's not something I'd want. There are federated instances that I mostly avoid, like lemmy.ml, which which welcomes and encourages CCP propaganda and disinformation.

I have the same problem, trying to add !deutschland@feddit.de ad independent of what I do it doesn't show up.

same problem here. i cant find !internetisbeautiful@lemmy.ml or !fossdroid@lemmy.ml ... is the magazine search broken?

[–] tristan@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

I have had the same (or similar?) issue.

I can search for example1@lemmy.ml and it works and I can subscribe in kbin.

But then I search for example2@lemmy.ml and get no results.

I'm still having problems with this, for example right now with photography@lemmy.world and analog@lemmy.ml.

I wonder if searching for the first time causes the sites to federate, but there is a delay so they don't show up immediately?

Ok, in https://kbin.social/m/kbinMeta/t/8373/Lemmy-compatibility someone figured out that you need to replace the ! with a @ and then it works to find it through the search. I tried it and could subscribe to the magazine I wanted.

Do you search in the search bar or in magazines?

if I search for @ communityname @ servername. whatever in the search bar it works for me. I had to use the spaces to get it to display properly

I think you put the wrong handles. I searched both @y2k and @frutiger_aero and now they work:

https://kbin.social/m/y2k@sopuli.xyz
https://kbin.social/m/frutiger_aero@sopuli.xyz

edit: problem is I'm not sure how to search for old discussions/posts to import them here. I tried with a few posts in the last few days but it didn't work like it does on masto/misskey. Searching the user sometimes seems to work.

Wait! I tried to search a thread and it didn't show results but if you check the magazines it's there.
