Any DS9 fans here? At first I hated Kai Winn episodes, but then I realized how well she works as a villain in the series. Gul Dukat was the more impactful antagonist overall, but the series might have been more shallow if everyone on Bajor was a "good guy", although it would have been nice to see more of Kai Opaka before ...
spoiler... they killed her off (or after they killed her and brought her back, but stranded her in the Gamma Quadrant).

This is my first post. I am looking for a good place for Star Trek discussions, news, jokes, memes, etc. that isn't reddit. I figure it will be a while before it needs it's own community. I'm going to miss some of the content in trek subreddits, but not the Paramount sponsored mods.

Yeah. I hated Winn, but only because Fletcher did such a good job portraying a villain. With a character like that, no reaction from the audience is the worst reaction of all.

As for the reddit alternative, just give it some time. People are still learning about the API debacle. I’m a refugee myself, and only signed up about half an hour ago!

yeah, it really takes a lot of work to make people hate you like she did. she was just so goddamned petty and cruel. Her constant plotting and her butting heads with Kira and Sisko (especially her jealousy of Sisko) made for an excellent and intriguing character to hate.

PS: I'm also a reddit (and digg!) refugee who signed up last night. I'm glad to be here and see so many other new people showing up! I look forward to seeing this place grow!

Totally agree, her conflict with Sisko gave them a great opportunity to explore and develop his character. Sisko was placed in a position in which he had to interact with her at a diplomatic level to maintain a positive relationship between the Federation and the Bajoran religious community, especially since it was so intertwined with what little government they had established after the occupation. Even though Sisko could see through her lies and knew exactly what kind of person she was, he knew that going after her too soon would too more harm than good. His restraint was evident in most of their interactions, but he didn't pull punches either. He would call her on her BS every chance he got. Would love to see that kind of deep inter-character development in new trek.
