I’m on Reddit a lot, too much probably. If 3rd party phone apps go away so will many of those users and developers. Annoying, but I hope it’ll result in several developers pivoting to Lemmy apps. We could use a few iOS & Android apps.

Where there currently isn’t any. Remmel doesn’t count as it’s not available globally.

Apparently, Remmel is NOT available ANYWHERE. I have no idea why.

I've been using Reddit less and less over the past few months, but if they won't let me access it using Infinity or Sync, I'm probably out for good.

it's also (pleasantly) surprising to me that they're still keeping old reddit around.

edit:

They say that usage of third party apps is increasing over time

I guess more people are starting to realize how much of hot garbage the official client is. good.

They raised the question of what would happen if such apps became the majority,

oh you mean the way it used to be for years before they've released the pile of steaming shit that incidentally doubles as a reddit browser?

I've used RedReader for almost 8ish years now. I browse on my phone 90%+ of the time. They (Reddit admin) kill it, might as well take the whole platform away from me.

At the very least I hope RedReader will allow users to get their own API from reddit and pay for the app and then their own usage. But only if the API pulls the full site and doesn't leave off things marked NSFW or whatever.
