So that people who subscribed to the Hashtag from anywhere else get notified about it. But afaik this is only working in the topic as the rest doesn't federate - at least to Mastodon.
No Lemmy doesnt federate hashtags.
And? Volunteer-run fedi instances are dealing with an unprecendented influx of users. Cut them some slack.
OP may just be excited because of the influx of user to a FOSS twitter alternative.
Wonder if they'll update to v4 soon?
